Liberia is a little-known but historically important coffee origin. It is the natural home of Coffea liberica, one of the world's three primary coffee species.

Coffee is grown at elevations of 500–900 m above sea level. Arabica is cultivated under forest shade and in mixed agroforestry systems, often alongside cocoa and banana trees.

Processing is predominantly natural, reflecting both the climatic conditions and the limited infrastructure available for washed processing. Some cooperative washing stations also use basic washed processing.
Harvesting is entirely hand-picked, and farmers use traditional sorting methods.
